What you pay for in a gutter installation
Every gutter quote is built from the same pieces. Knowing them helps you read a quote and compare two of them.
- Linear feet. The total length of gutter along every eave that needs one. This drives most of the cost.
- Gutter size. 6-inch costs more per foot than 5-inch. It uses wider coil and carries more water. See 5-inch vs 6-inch gutters in Texas.
- Coil thickness. Standard .027 aluminum costs less than heavy-duty .032. We list the gauge on every quote. For why we install aluminum, see aluminum vs steel vs copper gutters.
- Stories and height. Second-story runs take longer ladder setups. Three-story walls take extra setup time.
- Roof pitch. Steep roofs are slower and harder to work from.
- Corners and miters. Each inside or outside corner is a mitered joint. More corners add labor.
- Downspouts. Priced by the foot at $8–$15 per linear foot. Two-story drops and extra elbows add up.
- Removal. Taking down and hauling off old gutters runs $1–$2 per linear foot.
- Accessories. Extensions, splash blocks, outlet screens and diverters are listed per piece. See gutter accessories.
- Guards. Micro-mesh gutter guards run $10–$30 per linear foot. Basic screens run $4–$8 per linear foot.
How to estimate your home’s gutter footage
You can get a rough number before anyone comes out. Gutters run along the eaves, the lower roof edges where water drips off. Add up the length of each eave that needs a gutter.
- Walk the outside of the house and pace off each eave, or measure it from a plat or survey.
- Leave out gable ends, the sloped roof edges. They don’t get gutters.
- Add porch roofs, patio covers and bump-outs that shed water.
As an approximate guide, a typical one-story DFW home has about 150 to 200 feet of gutter. A typical two-story home has about 200 to 300 feet. Your home may fall outside those ranges, especially with a complex roof or a large footprint.
A worked example
Here is how a quote comes together for a common DFW home. Picture a one-story house with about 180 feet of gutter, 6 downspouts and old gutters to remove.
- Gutters. 180 feet of 6-inch seamless aluminum at $11–$17 per linear foot.
- Downspouts. About 60 feet of downspout at $8–$15 per linear foot (six drops of about 10 feet each).
- Removal. 180 feet of old gutter at $1–$2 per linear foot.
- Extensions. Six fastened downspout extensions, listed per piece, so water lands 5 to 10 feet from the slab.
Multiply each line by its footage and add them up. A two-story home with about 250 feet works the same way. The second-story runs and longer downspouts push the per-foot rate toward the top of the range.

Ways to save on new gutters
You don’t need to cut corners to keep the price down. These choices save real money.
- Bundle with a roof replacement. If you’re replacing the roof after hail, do the gutters at the same time. The old gutters come down anyway, and the new ones go up behind the roofer’s new drip edge. Our gutter replacement page explains the timing.
- Add guards at install time. Guards go on fastest when the gutters are new and clean. You also avoid a second trip.
- Use 5-inch where 6-inch isn’t needed. Small porch roofs and short, low-pitch runs often do fine with 5-inch. We will tell you where 6-inch matters and where it doesn’t.
- Repair instead of replace. Seamless gutters in good shape may only need a fix. A gutter repair visit runs $150–$650 per visit.
Gutter cost after a hailstorm
Spring hail is the main reason DFW homeowners replace gutters. Dented gutters may still drain, but dents can hold water and debris. Hail also cracks paint and bends downspouts.
If your roof is being replaced on an insurance claim, gutters may be part of the same claim. That depends on your policy and the adjuster’s inspection. We can give you a line-item quote and dated photos of the damage. Read gutter replacement after hail and insurance before you file.
After big storms, contractor schedules fill fast across the metroplex. A written quote in hand early helps you plan, even before the adjuster visits.
5-inch vs 6-inch: what the size adds to the price
Size is the biggest choice that changes your per-foot rate. 6-inch seamless aluminum runs $11–$17 per linear foot, compared with $9–$14 per linear foot for 5-inch. The wider gutter uses more coil, and it usually pairs with larger 3×4 downspouts.
What you get for that is capacity. A 6-inch gutter carries roughly 40% more water, and a 3×4 downspout moves about twice the water of a 2×3. Below valleys and on large two-story roofs, that keeps a spring downpour from spilling over the front.
Many homes don’t need 6-inch everywhere. We often use 6-inch on runs that drain big roof planes and 5-inch on porches and short runs. That puts the extra cost where it does real work.
Red flags in a cheap gutter quote
A low price can hide shortcuts that cost more later. Watch for these.
- Sectional gutters. Pieces joined every 10 or 20 feet, each seam a future leak. We roll-form seamless gutters on site, cut to the length of each run.
- Thin .025 coil. It dents and sags faster. Standard residential is .027 inch, and heavy duty is .032 inch.
- Few hangers. Hidden hangers belong about every 24 inches. Under heavy trees, closer to 16 inches.
- No removal listed. Old gutters left on the lawn, or a surprise charge on the last day.
- No downspout detail. No size, no count, no extension.
- No written quote. A verbal number can change on install day.

Frequently asked questions
How much do seamless gutters cost per foot in Dallas?
5-inch seamless aluminum typically runs $9–$14 per linear foot, and 6-inch runs $11–$17 per linear foot. Downspouts, removal and repairs are priced separately.
Do you charge for estimates?
No. We measure your home and give you a free written quote with each line item listed.
Is 6-inch worth the extra cost over 5-inch?
On large or steep roofs, under trees, and below valleys, usually yes. A 6-inch gutter carries roughly 40% more water. On small, low-pitch roofs, 5-inch often does the job.
Does removing old gutters cost extra?
Yes. Removal and haul-off runs $1–$2 per linear foot. It is listed as its own line so you can compare quotes fairly.
Why are some gutter quotes so much cheaper?
Low quotes often use sectional gutters, thinner .025 coil, fewer hangers, or leave the old gutters on site. Ask each contractor to list coil thickness, hanger spacing and downspout size.
Will homeowners insurance pay for new gutters after hail?
Sometimes, if the policy covers it and the damage is documented. We can give you a written quote and photos for your claim. Your adjuster decides what is covered.
Are the prices on this page final?
No. They are typical ranges for DFW homes. Your written quote, based on measuring your home, is the final price.
