Gutters on Keller, TX homes work harder than most in DFW. Many houses sit on large, wooded lots with big roof areas feeding long gutter runs. Overhead, post oaks drop tassels, acorns and leaves for much of the year. We install seamless gutters sized and sloped for those runs, plus guards or a cleaning plan that matches the trees over your roof.
Post Oak Country: What Falls Into Keller Gutters
Keller sits on the western edge of the Eastern Cross Timbers. That band of post oak and blackjack oak woodland runs through north Tarrant County. Many lots kept those native trees when they were built, and yard trees have grown up beside them.
Each season sends something different into the gutter:
- Spring: oak tassels and pollen, which form a thick mat that holds water.
- Summer: twigs and leaves knocked loose by storms.
- Fall: acorns, which roll to the outlet and jam in downspout elbows.
- Late fall into winter: leaves, dropped over weeks rather than all at once.
Post oak and blackjack oak leaves are thick and leathery. They break down slowly, so they pack into corners instead of washing out.
A gutter that never fully drains also stays damp against the fascia. That’s how a clog turns into rotted boards and a sagging run.
Big Footprints, Long Runs: Sizing and Slope
Keller grew from about 4,000 people in 1980 to over 27,000 by 2000. Much of that growth was larger homes on generous lots. The city still zones some areas SF-36, with a 36,000-square-foot minimum lot. Wide homes on those lots often have back walls of 50 feet or more.
A long run changes how we build it. Gutters slope about 1/4 inch per 10 feet. On a 60-foot run draining to one end, the far end hangs 1.5 inches lower than the start. You can see that from the yard.
So we usually set the high point in the middle and slope both halves to a downspout at each end. Each outlet then drains half the roof. We use 6-inch seamless gutters with 3×4-inch downspouts on most big runs, formed on site so each half is one continuous piece. Hangers sit roughly 2 feet apart, tightened to about 16 inches where heavy limbs hang over the eave.
Gutter Guards vs. Scheduled Cleaning in Keller
Under heavy oak cover, you have two honest choices. One is a regular gutter cleaning schedule, usually spring and early winter. The other is professional micro-mesh gutter guards, which run $10–$30 per linear foot.
Mesh keeps acorns and leaves out of the trough. It doesn’t stop pollen and fine grit from settling on top, so guards still need an occasional brushing. Basic screens cost less but let tassels and small acorns through.

Downspouts on Half-Acre and Acre Lots
More land gives water somewhere to go. That’s the upside of a big Keller lot. The downside is that some lots slope toward the house, a pool deck or a neighbor.
We plan downspout and drainage routing for the whole lot, not just the corner of the house:
- Buried solid pipe carried to a swale, low area or pop-up emitter well away from the slab.
- Leaf strainers at the downspout top so acorns don’t reach a buried line.
- Larger 3×4 downspouts where a valley dumps a big share of the roof.
Pricing a Keller Gutter Job
Big homes mean more footage, so linear feet drive most of the cost. Story height, corners and guard choice add to it. Rotted fascia has to be repaired before install, so we point it out when we measure. Still have original sectional gutters from the 1980s or 1990s boom? Removal and haul-off appear as a separate line. Our DFW gutter cost breakdown walks through each factor.
If your gutters are newer but overflow at one corner, a gutter repair visit to re-slope or add an outlet may fix it. DTX Seamless will tell you which one your house needs after we measure.
Frequently asked questions
How often should gutters be cleaned under post oaks in Keller?
Without guards, plan on at least twice a year: once after spring tassels drop and once after the leaves finish falling in early winter. Lots with heavy overhang may need a third visit in the fall.
Will gutter guards keep acorns out?
Micro-mesh and solid covers keep acorns out of the trough. Acorns can still sit on top of the guard until wind or rain clears them. Basic screens with large openings let small acorns through.
My back gutter run is over 50 feet. Is one downspout enough?
Usually not. We split long runs so they slope down from the middle toward a downspout at each end. That keeps the drop at the far end small and gives water two ways out.
Do I need city approval to cut back oak limbs over my roof in Keller?
Keller's tree rules focus mainly on development, and homesteads of five acres or less are generally exempt from its tree replacement requirements. Check with the city and any HOA before major cutting. We hang gutters around existing limbs.
Can you run downspout water to the back of a large lot?
Yes. On larger lots we can bury a solid line to a swale, a low spot or a pop-up emitter far from the house. We just make sure it doesn't push water onto a neighbor.
