Fort Worth gutters fight three things: oak debris, big new roofs on the north side, and aging homes near the Trinity River. Our gutter installation in Fort Worth starts with seamless 5-inch or 6-inch aluminum, roll-formed in your driveway and cut to each run. Then we size outlets and guards for the trees and roof above.

Cross Timbers oaks and what they do to a gutter

Fort Worth sits at the edge of Cross Timbers country, where post oak and blackjack oak are the native trees. Live oak, red oak and pecan fill in many yards. Each spring, oaks drop pollen and stringy tassels. In late fall, the leaves follow.

Tassels are the real trouble. They mat into a wet layer that blocks outlets and holds water against the fascia. Basic screens with big holes let tassels through. Fine micro-mesh gutter guards keep most of it on top, where wind and rain can clear it.

The city is working to keep more of those trees, not fewer. Under rules adopted in 2025, developers must preserve half the canopy on sites with post oaks or blackjack oaks. Our guide to the best gutter guards for oak and pecan trees compares mesh, screens and covers.

Far north Fort Worth: new roofs, builder-grade gutters

North Fort Worth has grown fast around the AllianceTexas development, which started in 1989 on 27,000 acres. RentCafe ranked the 76177 ZIP code among the fastest-growing new neighborhoods in the country. Its population rose from about 6,000 in 2014 to more than 24,000.

A lot of what went up there is tall, two-story production housing with steep roofs and long eaves. Builders often hang 5-inch gutters with as few downspouts as the plan allows. The result is overflow at inside corners and splash-back in heavy rain.

We fix this in one of two ways:

  • Add outlets: A new downspout splits a long run so less water reaches each corner.
  • Go up a size: Six-inch gutters, at $11–$17 per linear foot installed, handle steep back roofs far better.

DTX Seamless also hangs gutters on new construction for builders and general contractors working on the north side.

Older homes west and south of downtown

Fort Worth’s older neighborhoods need different work. Arlington Heights, just north of I-30, has mostly 1920s-to-1940s homes on tree-lined streets. Tanglewood, near a branch of the Trinity, is mostly brick and stone ranch houses from the mid-1950s on, built around big existing trees.

South of downtown, Ryan Place dates to 1911, and Fairmount/Southside is a city historic district. On houses this age, we often find sectional gutters spiked into soft wood. We point out rotted boards first so they can be repaired. Then new seamless gutters go up on hidden hangers.

In a local historic district, ask the city’s preservation staff about approval before work starts. Fort Worth’s commission reviews changes to materials and design, so a like-for-like swap is the easier path.

Hail on the west side of the metroplex

Fort Worth knows hail. On May 5, 1995, the Mayfest storm dropped hail up to about 4.5 inches across Tarrant and Parker counties. It hit the festival crowd on the Trinity and broke windows downtown. At the time, it was the costliest thunderstorm without a tornado in U.S. history.

Not every dent means new gutters. Light dents on the face are often cosmetic. Bent corners, split end caps and runs pulled off their hangers usually mean gutter replacement.

Storms also crack oak limbs, which can tear a section down without touching the rest. For that, gutter repair is often enough.

Where your Fort Worth downspouts should go

Fort Worth soils range from heavy clay to rocky ground, and many west-side lots slope. Downspouts should still discharge 5 to 10 feet from the slab, toward ground that falls away from the house. On sloped lots, we route water around walkways instead of across them, so nobody steps onto wet algae. Extensions, splash blocks and buried lines are all covered under downspouts and drainage.

Every Fort Worth quote lists footage, gutter size, downspouts and removal on separate lines. To see what moves those numbers, check what gutters cost in DFW.

Frequently asked questions

My new house in north Fort Worth overflows at the back corners. Are the builder's gutters too small?

Often, yes. Many builders hang 5-inch gutters with few downspouts, which struggles on big two-story roofs. Sometimes adding a downspout fixes it. Other times the run needs to go to 6-inch.

Which gutter guards handle post oak and live oak debris in Fort Worth?

Fine micro-mesh guards hold up best against oak tassels, pollen and small leaves. Screens with bigger holes let tassels slip through and mat down inside the gutter.

Do I need approval to replace gutters in Fairmount or another Fort Worth historic district?

Fort Worth's Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission reviews changes to materials and design in local historic districts through a Certificate of Appropriateness. Ask the city's historic preservation staff whether your gutter project needs one before work starts.

What should I check on my gutters after a Fort Worth hailstorm?

From the ground, look for round dents on the gutter face, crushed downspout elbows and loose corners. Take dated photos before anything is repaired. Insurance adjusters often look at gutters and downspouts as part of a roof claim.

Do you put in new gutters on Fort Worth homes that are still being built?

Yes. We work for builders and general contractors as well as homeowners, and we can schedule around the roofer and the final grade.
