Gutter repair in DFW usually comes down to a few problems: sagging, leaking joints, overflow, loose downspouts and hail damage. We find the cause, not just the drip, and fix it so it stays fixed. When a repair isn’t worth the money, we tell you that too.

Common gutter problems we repair

Sagging or pulled-away gutters

Older gutters often hang on spikes and ferrules driven through the gutter into the fascia. As the wood dries and swells, those spikes back out. The gutter sags, holds water and pulls farther away with each storm.

We replace spikes with hidden hangers screwed into solid wood, about every 24 inches. Under heavy trees, we space them closer, around 16 inches.

Leaking seams, corners and end caps

Sealant breaks down after years of Texas sun and heat. Corners and end caps are the most common leak spots, and sectional gutters add a seam every 10 to 20 feet.

Real repair means more than a dab of caulk on top. We clean the joint to bare metal, tighten or replace rivets, and reseal it with gutter sealant made for the job.

Overflowing gutters

Overflow is not always a clog. We check for:

  • Slope that runs the wrong way or sits flat, so water pools
  • An outlet too small for the roof area it drains
  • A roof valley dumping into a short 5-inch gutter
  • A gutter hung too low, so water shoots behind it
  • Debris packed in the outlet or downspout elbow

Fixes can be as simple as re-sloping a run or adding an outlet. Sometimes the right answer is a larger gutter on one section.

Separated or crushed downspouts

Downspouts get hit by mowers, kids and ladders. Joints pull apart, elbows crack, and straps come loose. Water then dumps at the wall instead of flowing away.

We re-connect, re-strap or replace downspouts and extensions. On expansive clay soil, water at the foundation does real damage, so we make sure it discharges several feet out. Our downspouts and drainage service covers bigger drainage fixes.

Hail dents

North Texas hail can dent gutters, crush downspouts and crack seams. Small cosmetic dents often do not affect flow. Dents that cup the gutter bottom, kink the front lip or crack joints change how water moves, and those need repair or replacement.

Fascia rot behind the gutter

When a gutter leaks or overflows for years, the fascia board behind it rots. Hangers then have nothing solid to hold. You may see peeling paint, dark streaks or a soft spot when you press the board.

Re-hanging a gutter on soft wood only buys a few months. We point out the rotted section and take the gutter down so the board can be repaired. Then we re-hang it on hidden hangers in solid wood.

Wrong slope

Gutters need roughly 1/4 inch of fall per 10 feet toward each outlet. Too little and water sits, adding weight and breeding mosquitoes.

Too much and the gutter looks crooked and may overflow at the low end. We re-hang runs to the correct pitch.

What you can check from the ground

You can spot most gutter problems without a ladder. Next time it rains, walk the house and look for these:

  • Water spilling over the front edge in one spot, usually below a roof valley
  • Drips or streams at corners, end caps or sectional seams
  • A gutter line that dips between hangers or tilts away from the roof
  • Water pouring out of a downspout joint instead of the bottom
  • Puddles or wet soil against the slab after a storm
  • Peeling paint, dark streaks or stains on the fascia or the wall below

Take a photo or short video of what you see. It helps us find the problem faster.

How we diagnose gutter problems

A leak you see at one spot often starts somewhere else. Here is how we work through it:

  1. Ask what you see. Drips at a corner, overflow in heavy rain, water at the slab, or stains on the wall below.
  2. Inspect from the ladder. We check hangers, seams, outlets, sealant, slope and the fascia behind the gutter.
  3. Run water. A hose at the high end shows where water pools, leaks or overflows.
  4. Check downspouts and discharge. We look for clogs, gaps and where the water lands.
  5. Give a written price. You get a clear fix list with a price before we start.

Repair or replace: how we decide

We would rather fix a solid gutter than sell you a new one. But some systems are past the point where repair makes sense. Here is the rule of thumb we use:

FactorRepair usually makes senseReplacement usually makes sense
AgeUnder about 15 years, metal still sound20+ years, thin or brittle metal
SeamsSeamless, or a few sectional seamsSectional with many leaking seams
Hail damageA few dents or one crushed downspoutDents along most runs, cracked seams
FasciaOne or two soft spotsRot along long stretches
SizingGutter size fits the roofChronic overflow from undersized gutters

If two or more factors land in the right-hand column, gutter replacement usually costs less over the next few years.

Hail damage and insurance

After a hailstorm, check gutters along with the roof. If you file a claim, the adjuster decides what is covered.

We can document the damage and give you a written repair or replacement price. Our guide to gutter replacement after hail and insurance covers what to expect.

A gutter repair visit runs $150–$650 per visit. That covers common fixes like resealing corners, re-hanging a sagging section or re-attaching downspouts. New downspouts, added outlets and re-sloping long runs are priced separately, and we quote them before work starts.

Frequently asked questions

How much does gutter repair cost in DFW?

A gutter repair visit runs $150–$650 per visit. New downspouts, added outlets or long sections of re-hung gutter are priced on top, and we quote those before we start.

Why is my gutter leaking at the corner?

Corner leaks usually come from sealant that has dried and cracked, or rivets that worked loose as the metal moved. We clean the joint to bare metal, re-rivet if needed, and reseal it.

Why does my gutter overflow even when it's clean?

The usual causes are wrong slope, an outlet too small for the roof area, or a 5-inch gutter under a busy roof valley. Sometimes the gutter just sits too low on the fascia.

Can hail-dented gutters be repaired?

Minor dents that don't affect flow or seams are often left alone or fixed in spots. Widespread dents, cracked seams or crushed downspouts usually mean replacing the damaged runs.

Is it worth repairing old sectional gutters?

For one or two problems, yes. If an older sectional system is leaking at several seams, repairs tend to keep coming back. New seamless gutters usually cost less over the next few years.

Can you fix a gutter that pulled away from the house?

Yes. We check the fascia first. If the wood is solid, we re-hang with new hidden hangers. If it's rotted, we show you so the board can be repaired, then we re-hang the gutter on solid wood.
